Product Details

A lovely and meaningful compass pendant?from the late Victorian (ca1903) era! This unique piece, which is crafted in sterling silver, features?a?heart-shaped middle?with a ?a double sided compass at its center. An anchor is incorporated into the design, with the stock at the top, connecting to the bail, and the arms peaking out from below, accented by a 3-dimensional coiled "rope." The beautiful shape of the piece?has the special meaning which was?referred to as "faith, hope and charity" during the Victorian era. The crystal compass, which is completely transparent, is encased in a gold-toned?bezel setting and encircled by a twisted rope border. Starting?with?the word, "MIZPAH" etched at the top of the anchor and then traveling?around the entire?pendant?is the sentimental?etched phrase, "THE LORD WATCH BETWEEN ME AND THEE WHEN WE ARE ABSENT FROM ANOTHER."?Stamped on the back of the anchor are?several English?hallmarks, including an anchor, (indicating that the piece was assayed in Birmingham), a lion, the letter "d" (indicating the piece dates?from 1903), and the maker's mark "W.I.". The original bail at the top allows you to easily hang the compass pendant from?a complimentary chain or added to a special charm bracelet. This lovely piece has?sentimental Victorian significance and would make a wonderful?addition to any collection!

Measurements: The round compass?has an approximate diameter of 1/2" and?the pendant?hangs slightly less than 1 1/2" long, and is 1" at its widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. The compass?is in excellent working condition and besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver?setting or etched details.
